Here are the top three stories today in Johns Creek:

  1. Fulton County and its 15 cities are still gridlocked over local option sales tax (LOST) revenue. The deadline is Dec. 30. The 15 Fulton County mayors, including the Johns Creek mayor, recently warned residents that taxpayers could see higher property taxes and cuts in emergency services if Fulton County increases it's LOST share. Fulton County commissioners said the county faces hospital closures, a mental health crisis, jail overcrowding, and an increase in population while it's share decreased from 2014 to now. (CBS News)
  2. On Oct. 18, the Department of Justice announced new charges, convictions, and sentencings in a pandemic relief fraud investigation. Thirteen people were sentenced including 36-year-old Darrell Thomas of Johns Creek, and five people plead guilty. Darrell was sentenced to 15 years in prison. The defendants are accused of illegally acquiring funds from the Paycheck Protection and Economic Injury Disaster Loan programs. (Georgia Patch)
