Johns Creek Police End SWAT Situation Near Elementary School
Johns Creek Police were able to clear the area near Abbotts Hill Elementary School on Tuesday after gunshots were heard nearby.
JOHNS CREEK, GA — Johns Creek Police were able to clear the area near Abbotts Hill Elementary School on Tuesday after gunshots were heard nearby.
Shortly after 1:10 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Abbotts Bridge Road and Surrey Park Trail. Officers surrounded the residence in order to contain the threat and avoid any possible risk to the public.
Due to the area being near Abbotts Hill Elementary School, the department requested Fulton County School Police and the Abbotts Hill Elementary administrators secure the school.

Once it was determined to be safe, the students of Abbotts Hill Elementary were able to be safely released to their parents with the assistance of Fulton County School Police and Abbotts Hill Elementary staff.
During this time, the multi-jurisdictional North Metro SWAT team arrived and were able to bring a peaceful resolution to the incident. Once all the students were out of the school, the North Metro SWAT team entered the house. Once inside, the team found a dead male, with preliminary signs indicating the man died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Criminal Investigation Division remained to complete an investigation.

“We are truly thankful no citizens or any of our officers were hurt during this situation," Mitchell said in a statement. "I want to thank the administration of Abbotts Hill Elementary, the Fulton County School Police, the Sandy Springs Police Department, the Dunwoody Police Department, and the Brookhaven Police Department for all of their assistance today to help bring this incident to a safe resolution."
