- At the Johns Creek City Council work session on Jan. 10, Brian Trusty, principal at Pros Consulting, presented a draft of the city's Recreation and Parks Master Plan. The plan anticipates spending more than $110 million to fund recreation and parks projects over the next 10 years. The draft has five strategic initiatives including Cauley Creek Park, Creekside
Park, trails, programming enhancements, and updates to existing parks. According to community feedback, trails were the highest priority. Multiple trail projects are in the draft, including the 5K perimeter loop trail at Cauley Creek Park and the trail connection from the park through Abbotts Bridge Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area to Abbotts Bridge Road. (Appen Media) - At a Jan. 9 meeting, upcoming work to the Macedonia Cemetery on Medlock Bridge Road in Johns Creek was discussed. For the first time, family members of those buried at the cemetery were included in the meeting. Johns Creek Historical Society member Kirk Canaday believes the first and earliest graves are near the original church, which burned down. Canaday urged Johns Creek City Manager Ed Densmore to remove all the trees and use ground-penetrating radar to find additional graves. According to engineering consultant Eric Nelson and geophysicist Rauf Hussein, the tree clearing and ground penetrating radar would cost about $100,000, and the graves at Macedonia, most of which do not have caskets, are the most complicated to detect. - Georgia had 4,646 players on college rosters in 2022, according to Steve Slay, a researcher with the Georgia High School Football Historians Association. In the 15 years Slay has been researching, Georgia's numbers have increased more than 40 percent. Johns Creek was listed as first in Class 6A, with the most players at 39 players.
