  1. A Johns Creek resident has lost $30,000 in an elaborate scheme. A Johns Creek woman reported receiving a phone call Jul. 15 from a man saying he worked at Microsoft. He said there was fraudulent activity on her bank account and she granted him remote access to her computer. The woman was then connected to someone claiming to be a manager at Chase Bank headquarters in New York, who said there was a transaction pending from a source in Russia for $30,000. The fake manager then instructed her to send him $30,000 in Bitcoin to balance out the phony transaction. (Appen Media)
  2. A man was sentenced to life in prison along with 375 years for shooting and killing a Fulton County Police Department Detective. 50-year-old Amanuel Menghesha accepted a negotiated plea agreement in lieu of a death penalty trial. Menghesha killed Terence Avery Green, who served as a Fulton County Police Department Detective for 22 years and was from Eastpoint. In 2015, Menghesha was arrested for firing at least 12 rounds at officers. (11Alive)
  3. A federal court will allow Georgia's contested 2021 voting law that bans giving food and water to voters waiting in line. The ban was one piece of a 98-page bill with changes to Georgia voting laws and inspired groups to sue in the name of protected speech encouraging people to vote. Judge J.P. Boulee, a 2019 Trump nominee, said Georgia could continue with the ban until a final ruling on the matter comes in the future. (11Alive)
