Here are the top three stories today in Johns Creek:

  1. State Sen. Shawn Still, representing Johns Creek, and other Georgia Senate Republicans are attempting to pass a law that would protect gas-powered leaf blowers from local bans that seek to limit their use. Still is the lead sponsor of Senate Bill 145, the Landscape Equipment and Agricultural Fairness (LEAF) Act, which would prohibit regulations that treat gas-powered leaf blowers differently than other similar tools. Still said his proposal would allow property owners to "make their own decisions" about whether to use gas-powered or battery-powered leaf blowers. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
  2. On Feb. 16 at around 7:00 p.m., three vehicles being transported by an 18-wheeler caught on fire while traveling on Interstate 285 in Fulton County. Firefighters fought to put out the massive fire near the northbound ramp by Cascade Road. It took about an hour for the flames to be extinguished, and all interstate lanes have since been reopened. According to the Atlanta Fire Rescue Department, no injuries have been reported. (11 Alive)
  3. Leadership Johns Creek is still accepting applications for its three-day Leadership Launch program that will run from Mar. 15 to Mar. 17. Participants will learn about the community, expand networks, gain exposure for their organization, learn from a diverse group of local leaders, and truly engage with Johns Creek.
