Here are the top three stories today in Johns Creek:
- Georgia's House of Representatives has approved a bill that would provide cash assistance to poor pregnant women under the state's Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program. However, due to strict work requirements and outdated income guidelines, the bill is unlikely to benefit many women in need. Representative Michelle Au of Johns Creek believes that the TANF qualifications should be reevaluated as they have not been updated in the past three decades. (11Alive.com WXIA)
- Several checks mailed to Johns Creek Dental Associates have been reported stolen, altered and cashed, with a total value of $2,560.90. The office manager discovered the missing checks in mid-January after clients' accounts were past due for 30 days. She suspects that the checks may have been stolen from the free-standing mailbox outside the business and has upgraded the mailbox to include a lock, as there were no cameras filming the mailbox. - Residents of Johns Creek can apply for a spot at the Community Garden at Newtown Park starting Feb. 15 and ending Mar. 15. The garden features 52 plots, including four raised beds, each measuring 4 feet by 8 feet, and is open to any resident interested in planting and maintaining a small garden plot. Applicants must submit their applications to the Johns Creek Garden Association and pay a $10 membership fee and a $60 application fee, with a reduced fee of $25 for individuals over 65. Plot assignments will be determined through a random drawing of all applicants, with membership and application fees refundable for those not selected. (Johns Creek Georgia)
