Here are the top three stories today in Johns Creek:

  1. A Georgia House subcommittee heard testimony about House Bill 161, authored by Johns Creek Democratic Rep. Michelle Au, and decided the bill will not move forward this year. The gun storage safety bill would punish gun owners whose negligence allowed unsupervised children access to firearms. Au said, "Gun safety legislation traditionally does not get heard in the Georgia State Legislature, so the fact of a hearing at all is a huge first step." (Moultrie Observer)
  2. The Johns Creek City Council recently announced that Johns Creek will host a Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, Jun. 17, at the Mark Burkhalter Amphitheater. The event will have food, music, activities for the whole family, a flag ceremony, and possibly fireworks. (Subscription: Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
  3. Most members of the Johns Creek City Council agree that the Johns Creek Vitality Committee needs more structure and direction. The committee was tasked to create a health and wellness brand for the city and to curate an image of the city as "a healthcare, wellness, and innovation destination." However, committee attendance is reportedly a problem: City Councilman Bob Erramilli said only 4 of the 11 members showed up in February. (Appen Media)
