Here are the top three stories in Johns Creek today:

  1. Fulton County deputies are searching for a man wanted in Florida for murder, aggravated battery, and possession of a firearm by a minor. Fulton County deputies tried to stop Drequan Hakeem Humes, 19, after he was discovered driving a car that had been reported stolen in Florida. Hues led deputies on a chase that ended when he crashed into another car at Cascade Road and Pollard Drive. Humes and an unidentified woman were able to escape deputies on foot. Fulton County investigators ask anyone who sees Humes to call 911. (WSB-TV)
  2. On Mar. 23, the state House of Representatives passed legislation that would make last year's bill, that prohibits government agencies from requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination to access government facilities or services, permanent. Rep. Michelle Au, D-Johns Creek said, “This bill aims to eliminate the ability for government agencies, including public schools, to require COVID vaccination 'as a condition of providing any service or access to any facility.' The harms posed by bills like this are not abstract … Bills like this tie our hands with respect to the response we can provide." The Georgia chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics also opposes the measure, president Dr. Angela Highbaugh-Battle and legislative chairwoman Dr. Melinda Willingham wrote, "Permanently prohibiting schools from requiring vaccination could severely hinder our ability to combat the pandemic." (Capitol Beat)
  3. Johns Creek elementary, middle, and high school students are invited to submit their artwork for Johns Creek Mayor John Bradberry's Community Art Competition. Students can submit 2D art including paintings, drawings, multimedia, photography, or digital illustrations. The artwork of the winner from each elementary, middle, and high school will be displayed at city hall. The submission deadline of Apr. 10, click here to learn more.
