Here are the top three stories today in Johns Creek:
- Johns Creek police are currently awaiting a warrant for a woman who fled from a car after her file showed she may have a separate warrant in Sandy Springs. Officers approached a car that was parked outside a Sherwin Williams with their headlights on a bit before 3:00 a.m. on State Bridge Road. When approached, the driver said the pair was going to go for a run; officers became suspicious of the two and checked their identifications. Once the officer returned to his patrol car, the female passenger fled from the scene on foot and police were unable to locate her. A charge for obstruction is currently pending. (Appen Media)
- The University of Georgia honored the services local undergraduates provide to the university by naming its Student Employee of the Year and Student Employee of the Year Team. Esther Kim is a fourth-year public relations major from Sugar Hill who was named the Student Employee of the Year for the tremendous work she does under Megan Ward and her leadership demonstrated through TEDxUGA. Aayush Umesh of Johns Creek was also one of the six members recognized on the Student Employee of the Year Team for their work with the University's undergraduate admissions office. (WGAU)
- The Johns Creek City Council is partnering with the Sizemore Group to develop a plan to redevelop Medlock Bridge Road and State Bridge Road commercial centers. The council is focusing on the redevelopment of underutilized centers and bringing new uses and relevance to these centers. The Sizemore Group was selected because of their high community engagement in receiving feedback and engaging with the public; they have worked on many projects in neighboring communities recently. The contract will be valued at $154,100 and the project will be covered through the money set aside for the 2023 fiscal year's Capital Projects Fund, as well as the professional services in the Community Development Department's budget.
