Here are the top three stories today in and around Johns Creek:
- Some Johns Creek city officials have raised questions about the financial particulars of the Medley project. Medley was unanimously approved for tax cuts at a meeting of the Development Authority of Fulton County last month on Apr. 25. Medley will be taxed at a 50 percent rate in the first year during the "incentive period," set to bring in an estimated $2.5 million in revenue, and will be taxed at the standard rate within 10 years of its construction. However, assistant city manager Kimberly Greer has gone on record that the city will forgo $300,000 in tax revenue in the first year if the tax cuts are honored, and city councilman Larry DiBiase has expressed concern that Medley may be dependent on the temporary abatement of the standard tax rate in order to be financially practical. - A man was found dead after a Memorial Day house fire in Stone Mountain (about 25 miles from Johns Creek). Per first responders, damage to the two-story home from the fire was extensive, with the roof charred and windows blown out. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and the man found dead in the home has not been identified. (11 Alive)
- The City of Johns Creek is urging residents to come hungry to the Summer Concert this Friday, Jun. 2. Food trucks at the event will include King of Pops, Stop-Eat-Repeat, Let's Taco Bout It Food Truck ATL, Burger 21, and Tiff's Treats. The concert is free to attend; details can be found here. From my notebook:
- Closer to downtown in Buckhead, a woman was killed in a shooting that authorities believe to have been targeted. Police arrived on the scene to investigate reports of a shooting on Lindbergh Drive and found the woman already dead in the backseat of a black Cadillac Escalade Uber, which had been shot multiple times. Police are seeking a light-colored sedan in connection to the shooting. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
- As of the morning of Tuesday, May 30, all lanes of I-285 were closed prior to Washington Road (Exit 1) because of emergency road work. WSB Triple Team Traffic advised motorists to take I-85 as a detour. (WSB Triple Team Traffic via Twitter)
- Knuckies Hoagies is slated to join other restaurants at the planned Medley development. President of Knuckies' parent company, Georgia Franchise Group, Todd Broaderick, has not confirmed whether the new location will be directly managed or a franchise. (What Now Atlanta)
