Here are the top three stories today in Johns Creek:
- A person of interest has been detained in a deadly Johns Creek neighborhood shooting on Tuesday. The early morning shooting left one person dead and another injured. Captain Todd Hood said the police don't think anyone is outstanding at this time, but they are waiting to identify anyone involved until the victims' families have been notified. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
- Johns Creek High School’s Kyle Vaka is courting offers from Vanderbilt and Clemson. Vaka was told by head coach Dabo Swinney and wide receivers coach Tyler Grisham that "they loved how [he] competed, they loved how coachable [he] was, and now it’s all about what [he] can put on tape for [his] junior year." Vaka has visited Clemson several times for games, camp over the summer, and visits with his sister who goes to school there. (The Clemson Insider)
- Johns Creek hosted this year’s MLB Play Ball event on Aug. 20 at Ocee Park. The free event helps children of all ages focus on the fun nature of baseball while encouraging an active and healthy lifestyle for kids. Former Atlanta Braves outfielder Terry Harper and Gwinnett Braves Mascot Chopper attended the event and played alongside the kids. Dozens of children attended this year and were able to hit off of Harper. (Appen Media)

- On Jul. 29, Johns Creek celebrated the installation of its second Gateway Marker with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
