The Student Leadership Johns Creek ceremony and induction of the new class took place on Apr.12

From Johns Creek Student Leadership: The 2016 Class of Student Leadership Johns Creek (SLJC) held their graduation ceremony and induction of their new class at Centennial High School on Wednesday, April 12 th . Mayor Mike Bodker, Representative Brad Raffensperger, Emory Johns Creek Hospital CEO Marilyn Margolis, Johns Creek City Councilmember Jay Lin and noted civic leader Roger Wise were guest speakers at the ceremony. School Board Vice President Linda McCain and Fulton County Schools Area Superintendent Cliff Jones presented graduation cords and completion certificates to all 42 Student Leadership Johns Creek graduates.

This is a two-year program that involves student leaders from all 4 Johns Creek High Schools. Participants in the first year program learn valuable leadership skills at the various program dates they attend and then go back to their “feeder” schools and teach these skills in creative ways to their younger peers. Students in the second year work more independently, they complete two multi-media projects; one a personal portfolio exploring resume building, introduction to LinkedIn and website building. During the year the students will work with business professionals on mock interviewing skills and proper ways to manage their digital footprint. This year the students also worked in connection with AT&T with a group of area seniors on inter-generational mentoring using web devices. The second project is to shadow a business professional in a field they are considering pursuing. The business leaders in Johns Creek have been extremely receptive to the students being their shadow for a day and have included Marilyn Margolis, CEO at Emory Johns Creek Hospital, Coca-Cola Olympic marketing director An Boon, Revenue Commissioner Lynne Riley, Commissioner Liz Hausmann, medical professionals from the area, and experts from Lockheed Martin.
