Synthetic Turf Coming To Ocee Park

The Johns Creek City Council approved a contract to install the turf on up to five infields.

JOHNS CREEK, GA — The Johns Creek City Council on Monday approved a contract with Sprint Turf to install synthetic turf at Ocee Park. Council members approved the contract at an amount not to exceed $644,422 for up to five infields.

The city notes the Ocee Park Athletic Association, which oversees the baseball program at Ocee Park, petitioned the City Council to consider installation of the artificial turf. In 2017, the Johns Creek Recreation and Parks Division installed three synthetic turf fields at Newtown and Shakerag parks.

That project converted the main soccer field and lacrosse field with the new surface. This change, according to the city, has resulted in a gain of more than 400 practices and games during the last two seasons.

Johns Creek previously said that synthetic turf field installation is consistent with the recommendations of the city's Recreation and Parks Strategic Plan. The new additions at both locations will also allow the upcoming sports seasons to occur with minimal disruption and will enable leagues to increase their play time in conditions that would have otherwise been lost to rain.
