The Johns Creek Veterans Association will celebrate its groundbreaking for the Johns Creek Veterans Memorial Walk at Newtown Park on July 19.
"At the moment, we don’t have a memorial to our veterans in Johns Creek," said JCVA President Gerry Lewis in a press release. "The Veterans Memorial Walk will give people somewhere local to reflect on the service and sacrifice of America's men and women in uniform. It is not a place to celebrate war, but to provide our residents a place to honor the legacy of those who served and those currently serving."
The four-acre site will be a meditative memorial to veterans in a quiet portion of the park, consisting of a landscaped trail with black granite memorials for each major conflict dating to World War I. Completion is tentatively set for Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2014.
