- Volunteers from Johns Creek's United Methodist Church helped package 100,000 meals with the non-profit Rise Against Hunger. The meals will be shipped internationally to communities facing hunger. Gogo Her, the Rise Against Hunger Area Manager, said “Hunger is one of those things that definitely can be eradicated and we believe that through meal packing events like this. We like to say it starts with a meal, we’ll empower people to become citizens who can actually sustain themselves.” The event also marked one million meals packaged with Rising Against Hunger since 2010. - Three weeks before the new NFL season kicks off, Christopher Hinton of Johns Creek was cut by the New York Giants on Friday. The undrafted defensive tackle signed a training camp deal with the Giants last April. Hinton started 19 games at Michigan from 2019 to 2021, receiving honorable mention all-Big Ten honors last season during Michigan’s run to the Big Ten championship and College Football Playoff. - Local volunteers cleaned up 353 pounds of trash at Autrey Mill Nature Preserve's annual Creek Crawl event over the weekend. The most common garbage found included beverage bottles, tennis balls, and pieces of plastic/foam packaging. More surprising items included a suitcase, a plastic toy oven, and a rusted wheelbarrow.
