Here are the top three stories in Johns Creek today:
- A 12-year-old girl was banned from a North Fulton County Walmart and received a criminal trespass warning from Milton Police after eating a lollipop before she paid for it. Jamie Hurley, the girl’s father, said, "It was a Dum Dum… the kind the Walmart greeters usually give out to kids that come in the store." On Mar. 3, Hurley left his daughter alone in the store while he picked up his youngest daughter; when he returned, he learned that she had opened the bag of lollipops and started eating one. He offered to pay for the candy, but the store refused to let him. Hurley said if she returns to the store, she will be arrested and that the punishment does not fit the crime. He continued, "We went through, obviously, what was wrong about stealing... I just thought it was completely unfair that they’re handling this with, with a 12-year-old kid eating a piece of candy." (WSB-TV)
- University of Georgia students are helping local governments, K-12 school systems, and rural hospitals strengthen their cybersecurity through CyberArch. Student interns present CyberArch clients with recommendations regarding their cybersecurity after conducting a risk review and visiting the site. Disha Adama, a management information systems and pre-law major from Johns Creek, is a team leader for one of the intern groups. Adama said, "Just being able to work with a local community and have an impact on them as a student with something as big and impactful as cybersecurity is really rewarding." (University of Georgia)
