$3M Mega Millions Prize Scored In GA

Large cash amounts were recently won in the Georgia Lottery games, including a $1 million prize in the Millionaire Maker scratch-off game.

ATLANTA, GA — The Fourth of July holiday ushered in some big money for a Georgia resident, who scored $3 million in the Mega Millions drawing.

Georgia Lottery on Monday released the list of the latest game winners, including a Kennesaw resident who bought multi-million dollar ticket at an Old 41 Highway Northwest grocery store.

The winning ticket on Friday matched five white-ball numbers and had a 3x Megaplier, lottery officials said. The jackpot for Tuesday's Mega Millions drawing is $70 million.

The Kennesaw resident was joined in the winners club by someone in Gainesville, who secured the $1 million top prize for the Millionaire Maker scratch-off game.

The scratch-off was purchased from a Winder Highway food mart in Flowery Branch. The resident on Thursday pocketed $505,685 in cash, lottery officials said.

In total, $41,909,778 in scratch-off winnings were claimed last week, lottery officials said.

Other winners were, per lottery officials:

  • A player on Friday won $567,689 in the Fantasy 5 jackpot. The winning ticket was bought from a Carrollton Villa Rica Highway gas station in Carrollton.
  • A player on Sunday won $150,000 in the Fantasy 5 with a ticket bought at a Highway 20 Southeast market in Conyers.
  • An Ellenwood resident on Friday won $64,061 playing Mystic Fortune.
  • A player in Hephzibah on Thursday won $26,956 playing Elephant King Jackpots.
  • A resident of Naylor on Friday won $10,000 playing Multiply The Cash.
  • A player in Grovetown on Thursday won $10,000 in the Georgia Five game with a ticket purchased from a Wrightsboro Road gas station.
  • A player in West Point on Saturday won $10,000 in the Georgia Five game with a ticket purchased from a Highway 18 gas station.

Online winning tickets have an expiration date of 180 days from the drawing date while instant ticket winners have 90 days from the expired date to claim prizes. Instructions on how to receive prizes are here.

Georgia takes 5.75 percent in state taxes and 24 percent in federal taxes for winnings more than $5,000.

"The GLC reports to the IRS and Georgia Department of Revenue the names of winners of prizes above $600. ... Additionally, the GLC is required to check for and deduct any outstanding child support payments for prizes of $2,500 and above and student loans and state taxes for prizes of $5,000 and above, net of wager or ticket cost," lottery officials said on the Georgia Lottery website.
