Deadline for KSU Students' Demands Passes

The demands to change the campus' culture included the closure of a shop that sells Confederate merchandise and more ethnic courses.

Kennesaw State University students who demanded the school change its campus culture have seen their deadline for making such changes come and go.

A student group called Atlanta Black Students United claims to represent students at universities across the metro area and says students of color are trapped in a racist environment, CBS Atlanta says.

“We demand that our Institutions release an official statement agreeing to take necessary action to declare the safety, justice, and equality of their Black students on campus, and the Black lives of this country,” the organization announced in its letter.

Each school’s administration was given until Nov. 30 to issue such a statement and satisfy other demands, The Emory Wheel reports.

Demands issued to KSU included the closure of a store that sells Confederate and KKK merchandise, increasing full-time minority faculty, and more classes on ethnicity, according to CBS Atlanta.
