KSU Students Burned by Lottery Foul-Up

Several students tailgating at a recent football game thought they'd hit it big, but it turns out the Georgia Lottery made a mistake.

A mass text led several Kennesaw State University students to believe they’d won a $1,000 scholarship before heading to watch the Owls take on Charleston Southern earlier this month.

Unfortunately, the text had been sent in error and wasn’t meant for that many people, lottery officials later confirmed.

CBS Atlanta reports that students were encouraged to text a code to be entered into a drawing to win the scholarship. Two random winners were selected, but the text was sent out to many more people than the two winners, causing confusion and some disappointment when it turned out the mass alert was a false alarm.

We apologize to anyone affected by the error at KSU’s game on 11/7/15,” the Georgia Lottery wrote on its official Twitter account, “We are contacting those students who participated in the promotion.”
