Police in Powder Springs have arrested a man they now believe killed the mother of his child in early 2013, the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

Joshua Maurice Gibson, 27, has been charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during commission of a crime for the Jan. 14, 2013 murder of Danielle Marshall. Marshall was found dead in her Palomino Drive home, while her infant daughter was unharmed.

Gibson told investigators that he had gone to the home and that Marshall hadn’t opened the door despite hearing the baby crying inside, the DA’s Office said. Marshall’s murder was the only such killing in Powder Springs in all of 2013.

Through more than two years of investigative work, police and the DA’s Office have uncovered more evidence and new witnesses which allegedly link Gibson to Marshall’s murder.

“I am proud of the work put into this case by my team and the Powder Springs Police,” DA Vic Reynolds said. “The next step will be for us to present the case to the grand jury, which we will do as soon as possible.”

“It is a relief to me that it appears solved,” Powder Springs Police Chief John Robison said. “Nothing will ever bring back that child’s mother, but we look forward to justice being served.”
