Phone Scam Impersonating Police Officers in Kennesaw

Scammers are attempting to collect personal information from victims, according to the Kennesaw Police Department.

KENNESAW, GA -- The Kennesaw Police Department is warning residents about a possible phone scam that involves someone impersonating an officer of the law.

A resident was contacted Monday from a person claiming to be “Captain Rolland with the Kennesaw Police Department," the department said on Facebook Wednesday.

The number is attached to a voicemail that says, “You have reached the civil warrant section of the Kennesaw Police department,” then requests vital information from the caller, such as their name and phone number.

Kennesaw police said that asking for information this way is not in line with their policies.

"This is to inform the public that we do NOT make calls asking for payments for any traffic citations or warrants over the phone, we have officers that will make a personal visit and will provide transportation for anyone that fails to pay any fine," the Kennesaw police said.
