Prescription Drug Drop-Off Planned For October In Kennesaw
Kennesaw Police Department and DEA join for prescription drug "take back" in October.

KENNESAW, GA -- If you have old or unwanted prescription drugs in your cupboards, the the Kennesaw Police Department is offering you an opportunity to get rid of them. The Kennesaw force is holding a drug drop-off on Oct. 28 at the CVS at 2782 Cobb Parkway, Patch has learned.
The event, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is being put on by Kennesaw PD, in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration. (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Or, if you have an iPhone, download the free Patch app.)
This will be the 14th time in the last seven years that residents will be given a chance to properly dispose of the "potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs," the force said in a news release.

Nationwide, Americans turned in 450 tons of prescription drugs last April, according to the DEA.

"This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs," the police department said.
