One Dead, Three Injured in School Bus Crash (Update)
The driver of a Scion crossed into the wrong lanes of traffic and collided head-on with the bus in Kennesaw Thursday morning, police said.

A Kennesaw man died at a local hospital after the vehicle he was driving crashed head-on into a school bus transporting special needs students and their monitor, Cobb County police said Thursday.
Kerry M. Kalafut, 63, died at WellStar Kennestone hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries in the Thursday morning crash, police spokesman Sgt. Dana Pierce confirmed Thursday evening.
At 8:11 a.m., the school bus was heading southwest on Kennesaw Due West Road just towards Kennesaw Mountain High School when it was struck by Kalafut’s Scion XB just north of the high school, according to Pierce.

Witnesses said they saw a car that didn’t appear to have a driver veer from the opposite lanes of traffic and collide with the bus, Pierce said.
Pierce said investigators believe Kalafut had a medical episode which caused him to slump over in his seat and lose control of the vehicle.
