12 Dead in a Massacre at a 'Dark Knight Rising' Screening in Colorado

Authorities are on the scene at a Century 16 Movie Theater in Aurora, Co. where a gunman opened fire in a crowded theater overnight, killing 14 and injuring 50. The gunman is in custody.

Update: This has been revised downward to 12 people dead, not 14.

Twelve people are dead, at least 50 injured and a gunman is in custody following a massacre at a screening of “The Dark Knight Rises" in Denver, Co. in the overnight hours of July 19/20.

According to MSNBC News, the incident occurred in the Century 16 Movie Theaters at the Aurora Town Center.

The gunman is reported to have been wearing a riot helmet, goggles and bullet-proof vest. He didn't stand out initially as many people were in costume for the Batman movie screening. He is reported to have ignited a tear gas container before shooting at the people as they ran for the exit. He was arrested in the parking lot outside.
