Olympic Steel in Winder has openings for the following positions.

Job title: Quality assurance engineer 
Job description: Supports the implementation of quality systems and processes at the operational level, including the technical and analytical tasks outlined in the associated procedures and work instructions.  Responsible for overseeing the technical areas of the quality assurance function, including customer and mill claims, the generation of related corrective actions, capability and gage studies.  Maintains the certification program for customers and serves as a technical resource for the manufacturing operation, resolving customer issues as they arise.
Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates must have five-plus years experience in steel service center or related industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field required
  • Steel industry and product knowledge, with knowledge of customer service standards and procedures with focus in laser, plasma and oxy fuel cutting
  • Proficiency in Lotus Notes, MS Word, PowerPoint, MS Excel applications and Olympic production control systems
  • Knowledge of quality engineering processes and familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and practices, APQP and PPAP
  • Knowledge of inventory management practices plus experience managing material, production and quality control
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations, procedures and strategies as needed
  • Familiarity with ISO and/or TS16949 quality management systems

Job title: Division controller 
Job description: Manages the daily financial, accounting and administrative functions of the division including, but not limited to, budgets, forecasts, cost analysis, spending justifications, long term financial planning and implementation of new systems. Manages the division’s administrative staff. Functions as a key member of the division’s leadership and strategic planning team. 
Qualifications: Candidates must have an undergraduate degree in accounting, economics or finance. CPA and/or MBA preferred. Three-plus years of accounting, finance or prior controller experience is required. Steel industry knowledge preferred. Ability to supervise, train and develop assigned employees.

Job title: Laser operator, second shift 
Job description: Responsible for burning steel sheets and plates material as specified by work order and customer needs, utilizing Trumph 4050 lasers. The operator oversees the burning process, including evaluating work orders, properly and efficiently setting up the machine, performing all cutting functions according to drawings, continuously monitoring/inspecting job for quality, packaging material per customer requirements and cleaning the work area.
Qualifications: Previous experience with laser operations preferred. Mechanically inclined, production oriented, and safety and quality conscious. General knowledge of crane operation and ancillary lifting devices.

Job title: Maintenance technician 
Job description: Responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining production and plant assets, performing building and equipment maintenance, repair and improvements and fabricating new machine parts as needed, all while working in a safe and timely manner.
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED. A college or technical degree in industrial maintenance is preferred. Minimum of two years of experience with precision instrument tools. Minimum of two years of experience with hand and welding tools. Ability to troubleshoot electrical systems including solid state motor drives, overhead traveling cranes, propane forklifts, hydraulic circuits and programmable logic controllers.
