Grayson Rolling the Dice on Sunday Package Sales of Distilled Spirits
Referendum in November will call for Sunday packaged sales of beer, malt beverage, wine and distilled spirits. Failure, however, would repeal all package sales on a Sunday.

The voted Monday to call for an ordinance permitting sales of beer, malt beverages, wine and distilled spirits by the package on Sundays and to place the question for a referendum on the November ballot. In doing so, however, they are rolling the dice on the measure already passed last year that allows for Kroger and convenience stores in the city to sell packaged beer and wine on a Sunday.
“You have to pass all or nothing,” Grayson City Attorney Lee Thompson told city officials at Monday’s city council meeting. “If this fails, you also lose Sunday package sales of beer, wine and malt beverages.”

If not voted on, however, the package store - - would not be able to sell distilled spirits by the package on a Sunday. City council members voted unanimously to take a chance and put the measure on the ballot. Beverage Superstore of Grayson is currently under construction and, according to owner Richard Tucker, it is on track to open by Nov. 1, 2012.
Loganville residents completed a petition drive over the summer to call for a referendum this . If approved, Loganville is likely to be facing the same issue. Voters in Loganville approved the packaged sales of beer, wine and malt beverages on a Sunday on a referendum in November, but also did not include distilled spirits.
