Councilwoman Bids Farewell to Loganville City Council

Michelle Lynch served three years on the city council.

Loganville City Councilwoman Michelle Lynch was recognized for her work at her last city council meeting Thursday (Jan. 9).

"It is with great pride we recognize you," said Dan Curry, handing a plaque to Lynch.

Lynch decided not to run for re-election since her three-year term end in 2013. During her time on the council and as a volunteer, Lynch has helped coordinate the city's many events, including the Heritage Festival, the Christmas Tree Lighting, the Groovin' on the Green series and more. She also served as the chairwoman of the Planning and Development committee and the Parks and Events committee.

"I was able to do things that I never thought that I would be able to do and things that I didn't know I was capable of doing," said Lynch. "I want to thank everybody who lives in the city of Loganville for allowing me to bring that to you, and enjoying a great time with you."

She added, later in the meeting when she stepped down from the dais before the swearing-in ceremony: "We have the finest people working in our city of Loganville, and I work for them. I've always felt for the last three years that I've worked for them and I just wanted to make them proud, make the people of Loganville proud, and I'm very honored that I had the opportunity to do that. ... It's been a beautiful learning experience."

She also thanked her husband, a former councilman who was deployed when Lynch took the oath of office in 2011.

Former councilwoman Chuck Bagley was sworn in to her place.
