Walton EMC Giving $3 Million Refund to Customers

Customer should see the refund this month.

Walton EMC is giving a $3 million refund back to customers this month.

According to the Walton EMC newsletter, about 108,000 customer-owners who have had electric service with them in 1987 and/or 2012 should be receiving the refund.

The company's reason for the refund? "Because customers own the company, it's self-defeating for Walton EMC to make a profit. When we collect more than we need to operate, we return the extra."

Customers should see the refund as a line item (or bill credit) on their December bills. Credits greater than $500 will be issued by check.

Refunds will be determined based on each customer's power bills--specifically, the amount of business one did with the co-op--in the years covered by the refund.

The $3 million brings Walton EMC's total refund amount to $49 million over the last 26 years.
