The 12-year-old told police his mother abandoned him on Monday

Atlanta police say the 12-year-old boy who appeared at their headquarters on Wednesday night and claimed to have been abandoned by his mother was a runaway.

Lazrus Walker was brought to the station at approximately 7 p.m., police said. An Atlanta police bulletin said that Walker’s last known address was a shelter on Joseph E. Boone Boulevard. Walker claimed that his mother abandoned him on Monday.

Police later learned Walker was a runaway and returned him to his home Wednesday night, police said Thursday morning.
