Driver In Midtown ‘Pedal Pub’ Crash That Injured 15 Charged: Police

ATLANTA, GA — Police have identified the driver of a crash involving a Pedal Pub in Midtown Atlanta over the weekend.

James Anthony Johnson, 28, has been charged with DUI, according to the Atlanta Police Department.

On Saturday around 6:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a traffic crash near West Peachtree Street and 14th Street Northeast.

On scene, officers said they learned that a Pedal Pub electric bike had tipped over while making a turn.

A preliminary investigation found that there were 15 people on the bike when it tried to turn and tipped over, police said.

All 15 patrons on the bike were injured and taken to area hospitals. None of the injuries appeared life-threatening, police said.

Johnson was booked into Atlanta City Detention Center.

Police said the owner of the Pedal Pub company, John Rapp IV, was also issued a citation for not having a valid sightseeing permit.

A Pedal Pub is considered an electric "party bike" or "bar on wheels" that can seat up to 15 people. The operator controls its every move.

According to Pedal Pub, it has over 60 franchised and licensed locations across the United States and Canada.
