ATLANTA, GA — Authorities have identified the driver killed when they were first hit by an unknown vehicle before being hit by an Atlanta Police patrol car during the weekend on Interstate 75 near Midtown.

The Georgia State Patrol on Monday said the incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Saturday on I-75 north before Northside Drive. Damari Xavien Jordan, 21, of Kennesaw, died in the crashes, authorities said.

Jordan was driving a silver sedan when the car rear-ended a Ford pickup truck on its right side, leading to both of the vehicles stopping on the right shoulder, authorities said.

GSP said Jordan left the vehicle and walked toward the Ford truck. Both drivers then exchanged gunfire, and Jordan fell onto the sixth lane of I-75, authorities said.

Earlier Monday, the GSP, overseeing the investigation into the hit-and-run and crash by the APD patrol car, confirmed to Patch that Jordan died.

APD is leading the investigation into the road rage, shooting and initial crash.
