Georgia Tech Ranks Among Top 3 Smartest Public Colleges

Only the College of William & Mary and the University of California, Berkeley ranked higher.

On its list of honors, the Georgia Institute of Technology can now boast that it has some of the country's smartest students.

The college located in the heart of Midtown Atlanta ranked third on a new list compiled by Business Insider, which identified the top 20 public colleges that had the smartest students.

Feedback submitted through Niche, a website where students can review their schools, was the basis for determining which schools made the cut, according to Business Insider.

The top 10 were as follows, according to Business Insider's top 20:

  1. College of William & Mary
  2. University of California, Berkeley
  3. Georgia Institute of Technology
  4. University of Virginia
  5. University of California, Los Angeles
  6. University of Michigan, Anne Arbor
  7. Colorado School of Mines
  8. University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill
  9. New College of Florida
  10. University of Maryland, Baltimore County
Last fall, for the 15th consecutive year, Georgia Tech was rated among the finest public universities in the United States. In its annual evaluation of undergraduate programs, U.S. News and World Report ranked Tech seventh in the nation. Among all national universities — public and private — Tech was ranked 36th.
