Injured College Football Player Being Transferred To Shepherd

Christion Abercrombie, a former Atlanta high school football standout, was seriously injured last month during a college game.

ATLANTA, GA -- A former Atlanta high school football standout who suffered a serious head injury last month is being transferred to Midtown's Shepherd Center. Christion Abercrombie, who now plays for Tennessee State, was injured in the second quarter in a game against Vanderbilt. Abercrombie was a three-star recruit out of Westlake High School in Atlanta.

Abercrombie, according to Tennessee State, will be discharged from Vanderbilt University Medical Center on Wednesday and moved to Shepherd. The center specializes in brain injury rehabilitation.

According to the school's website, Abercrombie was ranked the nation's No. 89 outside linebacker by ESPN.com, and the 71st ranked inside linebacker by Scout. During his Westlake career, Abercrombie totaled 106 tackles, 55 of them solo, four sacks and four interceptions as a senior. He helped lead the school to a 10-3 record in 2015, and helped the team to a 2014 and 2015 Region 3-AAAAAA championship.

In 2017, Abercrombie debuted at Illinois and played in 11 games, making 11 tackles and six solo tackles.
