MARTA Enhances Stations With Arts Project
MARTA is making a renewed push to beautify its stations with a curated art program.
ATLANTA, GA -- If you've been on Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) rail lately, you can't help but notice the artwork found in and around several of the stations. The transit agency is actively promoting art in the city as part of its newly established “Artbound” program.
The campaign kicked off on June 19 with live music by Moving In the Spirit dance company and cellist Jenn Cornell by a MARTA station. More of art-centered restorations are coming to stations such as the one in Decatur and at H.E. Holmes. The agency's 2017 budget includes funds specifically allocated for art-related programs, art-focused community activities and art restoration projects.
“From mosaics to murals, we are redefining the ridership experience here at MARTA by intentionally integrating art throughout the entire system,” MARTA General Manager /CEO Keith Parker said in a news release. “This new commitment to the arts allows us to engage our customers in a bold, exciting and often entertaining new way.”
