Meet Fulton County Commission's New Vice Chair: Joan Garner
Democrat assumes leadership commission on board.
ATLANTA, GA -- The Fulton County Commission has a new vice-chairwoman: Joan Garner was elected by board members at their Jan. 4 meeting.
"I am honored to serve as vice chair of the Fulton County Board of Commissioners,” she said. “During the past six years on the Commission, I have enjoyed bringing people together to find shared solutions. I value the fact that Fulton County is home to many diverse people and communities. I look forward to serving them all."
Garner has an extensive history in the non-profit sector, having served on various boards, including the Atlanta Beltline Affordable Housing, the Lambda Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the Metropolitan Community Development Corp., Council of Foundations and United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta.

She also served under former Mayor Maynard Jackson as senior advisor on gay and lesbian Issues. Under Mayor Kasim Reed, Garner served on the Public Works Commissioner Search Committee.

She lives in the Old Fourth Ward with her partner, according to the bio on her website.
Garner, a Democrat, was also sworn in as Fulton County commissioner for District 4. As vice chairwoman, Garner replaces Republican Liz Hausmann.
