Pedestrian Struck, Killed On Downtown Connector

Downtown Connector reopens after man is fatally struck by two cars on I-75/85 early Tuesday.

ATLANTA, GA -- Atlanta police are investigating a fatal accident that snarled traffic early Tuesday, Patch has learned. A pedestrian was killed when two vehicles struck him on the Downtown Connector, according to news reports.

Police responded to a call about a man walking in the HOV lane of southbound Interstate 75 / 85 just after 3 a.m. in Midtown, according to WAGA-TV. "Approximately three minutes later, 911 received another call about a man being struck by a vehicle," police investigator Pete Klismet told WAGA. "When officers arrived they found a male lying in the street deceased."

he accident caused a significant delay in traffic as that section of the interstate had to be shut down. But questions remain as to why the man was walking on the interstate at that time of the morning.

Both drivers who hit the man stayed on the scene and cooperated with police, WGCL-TV reports. The Downtown Connector reopened about 6 a.m.
