Pics: St. Patrick's Day Parade Turns Atlanta Green

Thousands converged upon Midtown Atlanta for the city's annual St. Patrick's Day Parade -- and we've got the pics to prove it.

ATLANTA, GA -- Green was the scene Saturday as thousands of Atlantans turned out for St. Patrick's Day Parade, one of the biggest and oldest in the city.

Parade-goers lined the streets as cheerleaders, marching bands, kilt-wearing Stormtroopers and even llamas kicked their feet up high down Peachtree Street as festivities kicked off about noon.

Rep. John Lewis was the parade's grand marshal as several Atlanta luminaries, including mayoral candidates, made appearances.

Another special guest was avid "Star War" fan Sam, an 8-year-old from Macon who was diagnosed with a rare congenital heart defect called hypoplastic left heart syndrome. On Saturday, his dream to ride in the parade came true, thanks to Make-A-Wish Georgia and the 501st Legion, a "Star Wars" costuming group, which included light-sabering jedis, and those kilt-wearing Stormtroopers.

While the weather held up for most of the day, colder temperatures invaded the area in the afternoon, causing many of the parade-goers to seek shelter in the comfy environs of the Irish pubs around the city.
