Buy Local, Cook Local, Eat Local in Monroe

Amici in Monroe shows how it's done.

The Monroe Farmers market on a Saturday morning gives credence to the whole concept of keeping it local. Farmers from the area bring their wares to the market on a Saturday morning and residents can buy fresh produce just like it used to be done in the good ole days.

A local restaurant, Amici, has taken it one step further. First thing on Saturday morning, employees from the restaurant were at the market purchasing some of the fresh produce. Before long, they were back with piping hot pizzas made with some of the fresh produce purchased not long before. There’s nothing like the smell of fresh pizza with tomato, basil and mozzarella cheese taken straight from the ground or the creamery, to the market and then to a local kitchen.

“Fresh is an understatement!! Come sink your teeth into an incredible explosion of herbs and veggies from the Monroe Farmer's Market! Thanks to Whippoorwill Hollow Farm, Blue Moon Creamery, and Kelly T. Preston,” Amici wrote on its Facebook page.
