Coming Soon to Downtown Monroe - a Pocket Park
It will bring a touch of greenspace to the heart of the city for residents to enjoy.
Downtown Monroe will soon have another little strip of greenspace to add to the charm of the city. A small pocket park is being built between two of the buildings in the heart of the city.
Saturday volunteers showed up to work on the project and the park began to take shape.  According to Sadie Krawczyk, director of Monroe Downtown, the park is being built by volunteers under the guidance of the Monroe Downtown Development Authority. The plan is to have benches to sit on, wireless Internet access and some additional landscaping in the heart of the city.
"People will be able to sit out here and eat their sandwiches or bring their laptops if they want," Krawczyk, said.
Volunteers began Saturday with demolition and grading. The next work party is planned for July 20. The brick wall has to be rebuilt and then the furniture and fencing will be added.
The park will be located between two building off Broad Street between Court and East Washington streets.
