Monroe Police Seeking Information in the Shooting of a 15-year-old Last Week
An arrest was made in a second, unrelated, shooting that happened two days later.

Officers from the Monroe Police Department are asking for information concerning a shooting that happened in Monroe sometime before 10 p.m. on April 15.
According to a press release from Monroe Police Chief Keith Glass, officers from the MPD were called to the emergency room of Clearview Medical Center at about 10 p.m. concerning a 15-year-old black youth who had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. The 911 call had come from a 19-year-old man who was transporting the juvenile victim to the hosptial.
According to Glass, investigators met with the victim and information was collected in the area of Reed Street and Reed Way, which was deemed to be the crime scene. If anyone has any information pertaining to this incident they are asked to contact Captain Treadwell at MPD at 770-267-7576.

A second, unrelated, shooting in Monroe two days later has already resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old woman.
According to a press release from MPD, officers were summoned to Clearview Regional Medical Center just before midnight on April 17 in connection with a male with a gunshot wound to the left leg. The victim, Steven Malcom, 37, initially told police that he was attacked by an unknown male on the way home from the store. However, when officers couldn't find evidence of the crime at the location Malcom first said, they went to the residence at 525 Maple St. where Malcom lives with Alvena Johnekins, 25. Blood was reported to have been found outside the residence. The subsequent investigation resulted in the arrest of Johnekins. She was charged with aggravated assault and cruelty to children. Additional charges are pending. According to Walton County Detention Center records, Johnekins remains in jail.
