Rebuilding of Monroe Captain Ds Begins
After a January fire burned Monroe's Captain Ds restaurant to the ground, the rebuilding has finally begun.
Residents have been waiting since a January fire destroyed Captain Ds in Monroe to find out when the restaurant would be rebuilt. It looks like the wait is finally over. The replacement structure is finally beginning to take shape.
The fire, on Jan. 20, 2013, left little of the building standing. Nobody was in the building at the time since the restaurant had already closed for the night. It was ruled accidental at the time, but staff at Captain Ds headquarters said it would likely take a while to sort through insurance details before the restaurant would be rebuilt.
Many residents expressed their hopes for a quick rebuild, sharing on Patch that it was a popular eating place in Monroe. The security fence went up around the structure and it looked like rebuilding would begin sometime in February, but for many months it stood with little or no activity. That has now changed. This weekend the replacement building could clearly be seen taking shape. Calls to the Captain Ds headquarters have not yet been returned, but Patch will update as soon as an expected re-opening date is given.
