'Hair' Production With Strong Cobb Ties

A new production of the 1960s-era musical continues through the end of June.

Act3 Productions, the professional-level community theater in Sandy Springs, is presenting the vintage rock musical Hair through June 29.Β 

The iconic show, features such familiar songs as Good Morning Starshine, Hair, and Aquarius. Hair, which debuted on Broadway in 1968, is a product of the hippie counter-culture and the anti-war movement of the time.Β 

The book and lyrics by Gerome Ragni and James Rado and music by Galt McDermot broke new ground in musical theater and came to define the genre of rock musical. While this production does not include the nudity of the original, it does have adult content and language. Parental discretion is advised.

Several East Cobb residents are featured in the show: Justin Kasian, a graduate of The Walker School and a theater student at Ithaca College, plays Berger.Β  Pebblebrook High School senior Alex Sherwin plays Claude; and Tara Folio, a graduate of Walton High School and a musical theater major at Auburn University, plays Sheila.

Other East Cobb residents in the cast are: Belle Adams, Katie Cathell, Allie Fogel and Jeffrey Rones. The show is directed by Patti Mactas and choreographed by Johnna Mitchell, both long time East Cobb residents.

The show opens with on Friday, June 14 and continues Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. on June 14, 15,21, 22, 28 and 29. A matinee will be offered at 3 p.m. on June 23.Β
