Hightower Trail Teacher Becomes Author

When she's not instructing her students and completing other duties as an eighth grade English teacher at Hightower Trail Middle School, Re Marzullo writes fiction.

And this isn't casual dabbling-on-the-weekends fiction, but publishable fiction.

Marzullo became a first-time author in February with the publication of "SPED," a fiction title geared toward the age group of the young readers she teaches.

The book, published by Sauvignon Press, is available in print and in digital form via Amazon.com.

SPED is the story of Jack Parker, an eighth grader overcoming the challenges of middle school and interacting with his small group special education class. “From day one I saw my main character, Jack Parker, fully created in my head. I knew from the start what his goal was and what obstacles he would face. Once I started writing about Jack and all his classmates, I soon realized that I enjoyed it so much. They are really fun characters to work with,” Marzullo said.

Marzullo has been a teacher in the Cobb County School District for 19 years, previously having taught at Mabry Middle School and Kell High School in Northeast Cobb.

While she's a big football fan (Georgia Bulldogs, New Orleans Saints), Marzullo admits to her true passion, aside from teaching:

"Writing is like breathing. If I don't do it, I don't feel so good," she said.
