Oconee County's Unemployment Rate Lowest in State at 5.1 Percent

The Georgia Department of Labor announced Thursday that the Northeast Georgia region’s unemployment rate declined to 7.8 percent in February, down four-tenths of a percentage point from 8.2 percent in January. The rate was 8.9 percent in February a year ago.

The rate declined as a result of fewer new layoffs, according to a news release. 

Oconee County's preliminary unemployment rate was 5.1 percent in February, the lowest in the state.  It is a decline of two-tenths of a percentage point from a revised rate of 5.3 percent in January.

Jenkins County had the highest unemployment rate in February at 18.5 percent.

The state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for February was 8.6 percent, down from 8.7 percent in January. The rate was 9.2 percent in February a year ago.
