📰 News we're reading

• OCPS students adopt a 300-year-old tree (oconeeenterprise.com) — First graders at Oconee County Primary School have “adopted” a massive tulip poplar, likely more than 300 years old, growing on Board of Education land near their classroom. With help from local tree enthusiast Roger Collins, students are learning the tree’s deep history, from Native peoples through early settlers, and why sharing its story helps protect this living landmark.

• Generations of former kids of Ms. Evelyn wish her a happy retirement under oak tree (oconeeenterprise.com) — A beloved Watkinsville home childcare provider, 89-year-old Evelyn Adams, is retiring after 60 years of running Kids Nest Nursery School off Norton Road. Generations of former students recently gathered under a centuries-old county oak tree to surprise her with notes, memories, and thanks for the loving care she gave local families. Her home will stay kid-friendly as she now focuses on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
