"Upon our arrival, we were in offense mode, which means we did go inside with the guys, but the roof started to come down inside a little bit, so we backed everybody out in defense mode and knocked it out that way," Melvin explained.

Withinin about 15 minutes, it was under control, he said.

As of 1:30 p.m., cause of the fire was unknown and firefighters were still working to clear hot spots, vent smoke, and recover items from inside.

The American Red Cross was assisting the family of four, which includes two boys, ages 10 and 12.

The family's cat may have been inside at the time, Melvin said, but also noted that often animals are able to find a way to escape on their own.
