Man Fires Shotgun 'to Scare the Witches'

Oconee County Sheriff's deputies were called to the area of Wire Bridge Road Thursday night to investigate reports of shots fired.

Neighbors alarmed by the sound of gunfire Thursday requested that Oconee County Sheriff's deputies investigate the area of Wire Bridge Road.

According to an incident report, the 66-year-old man who'd fired the shotgun around 9 p.m. told deputies he'd shot it into the air "to scare the witches away."

Two rifles and a shotgun were turned over to the man's son for safe keeping, the report stated.Β  Though the man refused medical treatment, he agreed to spend the night at the son's residence.
