Local Elementary School Cafeteria Categorized as 'High Risk' Based on Recent Health Inspection

The following is a list of school cafeterias in Oconee County that have undergone routine health inspections recently. All information was obtained from the Northeast Georgia Health District's health scores website.

Each cafeteria is given a score, and any violations are listed online. The cafeteria is categorized as low risk if there are no critical violations and a score of 90 or more is achieved. For a food establishment to be categorized as high risk, one or more critical violations must be found.

Any food establishments with a failing grade — a score of 70 or less — receives a follow-up inspection within 10 days.

Rocky Branch Elementary School at 5100 Hog Mountain Road, Watkinsville

Score: 90

Inspection date: May 3, 2013

High risk — One or more critical violations: 

• Violation of: 6-1B. Proper hot holding temperatures — Potentially hazardous foods in pass-through not 135 degrees or above. Corrective action: Moved foods to working pass-through and instructed person in charge to discard all items after 12:30 (three-hour hold). Person in charge advised to maintain all potentially hazardous foods at 135 degrees or above during hot holding. Corrected on site.

Non-critical violation: 

• Violation of: 15A. Food and nonfood-contact surfaces cleanable, properly designed, constructed, and used — Pass-through warmer not holding food at 135 degrees or above. Do not use for potentially hazardous food storage until repaired. 

High Shoals Elementary School at 401 Hopping Road, Bishop

Score: 96

Inspection date: May 3, 2013

Low risk — No critical violations

Non-critical violation:

• Violation of: 2-2B. Proper eating, tasting, drinking, or tobacco use — Employee drink cup in dish washing area not single service, no lid/straw. Corrective action: Discarded. Person in charge advised that employee drink drinks shall be in single use cup with lid and straw.  

Oconee County High School at 2721 Hog Mountain Road, Watkinsville

Score: 97

Inspection date: April 29, 2013

Low risk — No critical violations

Non-critical violation: 

• Violation of : 12C. Wiping cloths: properly used and stored — Incorrect sanitizer concentration in wiping cloth buckets. Corrected.

Oconee County Middle School at 1101 Mars Hill Road in Watkinsville 

Score: 97

Date of inspection: April 29, 2013

Low risk — No critical violations 

Non-critical violation: 

• Violation of : 12C. Wiping cloths: properly used and stored — Sanitizer concentration too low in wiping cloth buckets. Corrected.
