Police Find Stolen Motorcycle Parked Outside of Watkinsville Business

The motorcycle was reported stolen out of South Carolina in 2009.

Watkinsville Police on Saturday, June 8, recovered a motorcycle that had been reported stolen more than four years earlier from South Carolina.

Police Chief Lee O'Dillon said officers were checking on the motorcycle parked at a business on Ga. Highway 15 when a computer check revealed that the 2007 BMW 1200 was stolen.  

Police in Greenville, South Carolina listed the bike as stolen on April 23, 2009, according to a news release.

The motorcycle was impounded and the agency in Greenville was notified, O'Dillon said.

Police also responded to the following incidents:

  • At 10:41 on Monday, June 3, motorists complained of a reckless driver entering Watkinsville. Police spotted and stopped the 1994 Pontiac on North Main Street.  After failing sobriety testing Ashley Fay Riggs, 21, of Athens, was charged with DUI, O'Dillon said. She was booked and later released after posting bond. An arrest isn't a conviction.
  • A 2003 Ford pick-up towing a trailer was hit from behind by a 2000 Ford Explorer on North Main Street at Experiment Station Road on Wednesday, June 5, at 4:38 p.m.  No one was injured and only minor damage was reported.
  • Police were called to a domestic situation at a Jeremy Drive address around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 5. A man and woman had been involved in a heated argument for several hours, according to other family members.  Alcohol was a contributing factor. One person agreed to leave the residence for the evening.

Watkinsville police responded to a total of 31 calls within city limits between June 3-9, 2013.
