Regional Roundup: Car Dealership Destroyed by Fire, Inmate Found with Handcuff Key in His Mouth, and Mayor's Home Burglarized

A raging fire destroyed U.S. Auto Sales on Atlanta Road (Highway 9) in Cumming Sunday afternoon, producing a cloud of black smoke that could be seen across Georgia 400 between exits 14 and 15.

No one was injured in the fire, according to Battalion Chief Jimmy Hildebrand of the . It is unknown when the fire was first reported, but Cumming Patch was on the scene shortly after 1 p.m. At that time flames were consuming the structure and when firefighters had the blaze under control, at least 14 vehicles were destroyed.

An inmate at the Gwinnett County Detention Center somehow got a handcuff key. The Gwinnett County Sheriff's office is now trying to determine how Reco West managed to get his hands on the key. According to 11Alive, staff at the jail learned the 19-year-old had the key somewhere in his cell.

After searching the cell, deputies were unable to locate the key. They later found it in the inmate's mouth.  

West is one of the six men arrested for the earlier this month.

The Athens Banner Herald says that Mayor Nancy Denson’s house was robbed sometime during the past several weeks. Denson told police on Friday afternoon that she was missing $1,600 worth of jewelry. Missing were diamond earrings, a 1976 University of Georgia class ring and a watch, She didn’t name any suspects, police said.
